    i have a titanium rod and 9 screws as a collarbone on my right side. i shatttered the bone- now its just a rod. i dont use the smith machine much, but for seated military i love the smith machine, u can really load it up. and also for shrugs. its not useless- i just think it should not be used for squats, deads, etc.

  10. Smith machines are resistance. Free weights gravity. I love smith machines. And I do less free weights. It works for me. People don't educate themselves and they start from intermediate to advance workouts. Everything you learn in this world has a beginner, intermediate and advanced.

    If you like it, use it.
    Personally I use it for one or two exercises when I want to do a burnout overload on a lesser weight.

    Only thing that grinds my gears when other people use it is when someone puts clips on the bar…and yes…that actually happens.

  14. An old smith machine seized on me doing calf raises and broke both my legs clean in half. Spent 3 months in a wheelchair. I was using the stops too..

  15. smith machine laid da ground work 4 my legz wen i waz a newbie did different variations 2 target muscle groups, It has its place & use in the gym.

  16. smith machines for me are only good for shrugs, strict rows with no cheating or very strict moderate weight presses for those with sensitive shoulder issues.

  17. Once I hit 40, I only bench on a smith. My shoulders and elbows do GREAT pushing serious weight on a smith!

  19. I don't use them. The movement is unnatural to me, but more power to those who like them. I've pretty much gone to just dumbbells and cables. And pure bodyweight stuff.
